Ferme d’hiver (also known as Winter Farms) produces modular and stackable vertical growing systems, called Winter Farms, which can be used by vegetable and fruit farmers. The Quebec-based company uses artificial intelligence (AI) to closely control environmental factors such as water, light, air, and temperature in its system.
The company also grows winter berries in Brossard (on Montreal's South Shore) and sells them in a few local stores. The company plans to expand distribution and develop more farms in Quebec.
In December 2022 , the company raised CAD 46 million (~USD 34 million) in venture funding with the participation of Quebec Government and Investissement Québec, along with new investors. The company plans to use this funding to build a vertical farm for strawberry production in Vaudreuil, expecting to produce nearly one million kilograms of strawberries each year.
