Rise Gardens

Rise Gardens produces a hydroponic vertical gardening system that grows fresh produce indoors. The company’s IoT-connected gardening system targets individuals, families, and schools looking to grow vegetables, herbs, and microgreens. The system does most of the growing activities (computing pH levels and nutrients, determining watering frequency, etc.) and can be conveniently controlled via a smartphone. Customers can add more gardening systems as per needed as it is modular. The gardening system is offered via a set of bundles. A family bundle of 12 pod trays costs USD 549, while a personal garden bundle costs USD 279. Customers can also subscribe to receive regular deliveries of seed pods at prices that start at USD 29.49 for a pod of three boxes. In January 2023 , the company announced the launch of a modular garden that allows up to 108 different plants to be grown in any system at once. The new Rise Garden includes accessories, such as trellises and plant stands, and allows produce from rooted vegetables, beans, and peas, to large flowering plants, microgreens, and leafy greens and herbs.

In February 2021, the company launched its Amazon Alexa integration to make the gardening experience much easier for customers. Although the details about technology integration are still unclear at the moment, the company envisions customers being able to consult Alexa regarding pH levels or adjustments to grow lights. Moreover, Rise Gardens could also inform clients to water their plants via Alexa. In July 2021, the company raised USD 9 million in an oversubscribed Series A funding round for market expansion and product development. As of July 2021, Rise Garden’s North American customer base has purchased close to 100,000 pods and harvested 50,000 plants. The company also reported that it began selling its vertical farming growing system via Amazon, its first online retail channel.
