Verdant Robotics develops autonomous robots that can grow specialty crops at superhuman scales. The company offers services, including data analytics and crop applications, to expand access to farms of all sizes while maintaining farmer control over their business. Verdant indexes the farm and tracks each plant over time and space, and its system creates a digital twin of the whole farm. Verdant implements can apply chemicals for crop protection and fertility or deploy lasers for weed suppression. Furthermore, Verdant delivers microarray to the farm to conduct field tests and learn about growth techniques. The company's 6-row and 12-row commercial implements can treat up to 4.2 acres per hour using up to 95% fewer chemicals.

Verdant Robotics announced the extension of its robot-as-a-service (RaaS) business in February 2022 to assure access for more farmers of specialty crops. In the meantime, Verdant signed a contract to serve 40% of the US carrot market for the following five years and supply the country's fruit and vegetable industry. The company had plans to produce another first for the specialty crop industry by commercializing a precise multi-action machine for orchards by 2023 as part of its platform expansion.

Key customers and partnerships

Verdant Robotics and Bolthouse Farms partnered in May 2022 to automate Bolthouse Farms' in-field carrot production processes, starting with weeding and extending through fertilizer application. Furthermore, using funding from the US Department of Agriculture, Verdant Robotics and the University of California, Davis (UC Davis) announced a partnership in October 2022 on a research project to estimate the economic, sociological, and agroecological value produced by the adoption of next-generation precision agriculture technologies, including autonomous farm management robotics (USDA).

Funding and financials

In November 2022 , the company raised USD 46.5 million in Series A funding led by Cleveland Avenue and with participation from new and existing investors. The funds were to be used to develop the company’s robotics technology and accelerate the broad adoption of its precision agriculture solutions.
