HTX Labs specializes in creating VR training modules for the defense industry and also provides low-code/no-code tools for the development of customized modules. These solutions, accessible across a range of VR headsets or roomscale VR installations, are offered under the company’s flagship EMPACT platform, consisting of the following modules:

1) EMPACT Studio provides no-code tools for creating XR assets for training simulations, helping organizations develop and sustain their own training modules. This includes the creation of singleplayer and multiplayer pilot and aircraft maintenance training experiences, as well as industrial safety training programs. Furthermore, the company claims that EMPACT is the first and only VR training system approved to run on USAF networks.

2) EMPACT Cloud offers cloud-based infrastructure and an analytics engine for the distribution and measurement of training programs.

The company initially focused on the commercial activities, but pivoted focus toward military use from 2019 onward, with HTX Labs being awarded Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) programs to pursue efforts on aircraft maintenance and pilot training.

Key customers and partnerships

In September 2023, the company was awarded a contract worth USD 90 million by the US Air Force. This Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract was set to facilitate the delivery of immersive content and solutions across the US Air Force and the US Space Force.

Other notable customers include the UK’s Royal Air Force and chemical manufacturing company Solvay (to create training programs focused on hazardous material handling and industrial procedures).

In August 2023, HTX Labs partnered with VR training platform Vinci VR to help deliver customized VR training modules for the defense sector.

Funding and financials

In September 2022, the company raised USD 3.2 million in funding from Cypress Growth Capital. Funds were earmarked to expand its revenue team, its current footprint within the US Department of Defense, and identify expansion opportunities into other commercial markets, such as heavy industry, manufacturing, and higher education.

Additionally, at the MS&T Simulation and Training Awards program, the company disclosed that it achieved a 164% YoY revenue growth in 2021.
