Twine is a networking startup for remote teams that automatically matches participants into one-on-one or small group breakout rooms to facilitate conversations. Twine’s tools integrate with existing technologies of Zoom, MS Teams, and Google Meet and have seen use cases across a range of areas, including leadership engagement, remote team engagement, onboarding, sales events, and D&I initiatives. Twine’s customer base includes the likes of Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and eBay. The company operates a subscription-based model with a free version and a paid plan priced at USD 5 per user per month and a pay-per-use offer that costs USD 8 per user per event.

In February 2022, Twine acquired Glimpse, a speed networking solution for virtual events, for an undisclosed amount in an all-stock deal. Glimpse matches virtual event attendees based on compatibility directly for networking purposes. The company used Zoom’s “Breakout Rooms” APIs to build “Shuffle,” an integration that matches participants in Zoom meetings and events for speed networking.

Key customers and partnerships

As of February 2022, Glimpse had 150 customers and a waitlist of 700. The combined team was expected to release the “Twine for Zoom” app in the Zoom App Marketplace to streamline Twine’s existing networking process, which requires a handoff from Zoom when transferring participants out of a Zoom meeting to Twine. Twine for Zoom would feature automatic and tag-based matching, networking, and virtual watercooler tools that are relevant for multiple use cases.

Funding and financials

Twine raised USD 3.3 million in a seed funding round led by Moment Ventures, in June 2021. As per the deal, Clint Chao (Partner, Moment Ventures) joined Twine’s board of directors. The funds were raised to expand its sales and customer success teams, for accessibility improvements, and to expand its platform.
