Scalapay

Scalapay is an Italian BNPL provider that breaks up transactions into three installments with zero interest. The first installment is made at checkout, and the amount of the customer’s credit limit will depend on the retailer and the type of card used. Scalapay claims that merchants can increase average order values by 49% with a 26% increase in the number of paying customers by using its service. Scalapay integrates with e-commerce platforms such as PrestaShop, WooCommerce, Shopify, and Magento and claims that it is leading the space in Italy. Furthermore, Scalapay reported that its average order value is around EUR 100 with a 93% approval rate and default rates below 1.5%. The company generates revenue through commission-based fees from merchants, which are around 4.2% of the transaction value. In addition, customers are charged late fees of up to EUR 12 (approximately USD 15) per late payment.

In March 2023 , Scalapay acquired Italian payment company Cabel, for an undisclosed amount.

Key customers and partnerships

As of September 2021 Scalapay had partnered with over 3,000 merchants. Notable merchants include brands such as Decathlon, Calzedonia, Bata, Aosom, and Bricobravo.

Funding and financials Scalapay raised USD 27 million in funding from Poste Italiane—one of the largest payment card issuers in Europe. The round is an extension of Scalapay’s USD 497 million Series B-1 round in February 2022 when it achieved unicorn status. The funds will be allocated toward expansion into new markets, hiring, product development, and expanding its executive team and company board.
