Founded in 2016, Nordic Harvest operates a vertical farming facility in Denmark. The farm produces plants such as lettuce, cabbage, and herbs, with plans to grow strawberries, blueberries, cucumbers, and potatoes in the future. The produce is harvested for use in commercial kitchens; however, the company aims to expand to supermarket sales by 2021.
In December 2020, Nordic Harvest announced a partnership with Taiwan-based vertical farming company YesHealth Group to develop the biggest vertical farm in Europe in the outskirts of Copenhagen, Denmark. The farm is said to be 14 stories, covering 75,000 sq. ft.
YesHealth Group will provide its proprietary technologies, such as robotics, hydroponics, smart data-processing software, etc., while Nordic Harvest will operate the farm. Production will begin in Q1 2021, with the annual capacity expected to increase fivefold, from an initial 200 tons to 1,000 tons by early 2022, equivalent to the capacity of AeroFarm’s global headquarters. The facility is expected to generate profit within its first year of operation, and Nordic Harvest expects to produce crops 15 times each year in its new farming facility.
In May 2023, the company announced plans to build a 35,000 sq m production facility to grow lettuce, herbs, and kale initially, with plans to expand to various kinds of peas. The company has already secured the land by purchasing the adjacent building. The new facility will have the capacity to produce around 1,000 tons of greens annually. The company also plans to expand its supply to Salling Group's stores, the largest retailer in Denmark.
