BetterVet

Boston-based BetterVet is a mobile and telehealth veterinary startup that allows users to schedule video consultations and home call visits with BetterVet-partnered veterinarians, and order pet medication through its mobile app. The app also allows users to record and access medical history, past appointments, and certificates of their pets. Through video consultations, BetterVet veterinarians provide diagnoses, pet counseling, and nutrition and behavioral advice. Services such as wellness exams, sick visits, urgent care, end of life services, and diagnostics such as ultrasounds and EKGs, are offered through home visits. Veterinary surgical services that cannot be provided through video or home visits are provided at its partner hospitals. As of November 2022, the company was operating in 25 major US cities, including Chicago, Philadelphia, Austin, and San Francisco.

BetterVet provided the first video consultation for free and any subsequent video consultations were priced at USD 75 per session as of October 2021. Home visits start at USD 195 per visit, while the cost of vaccinations, medications, and diagnostic tests are charged separately.

In May 2022, the company acquired mobile veterinary service provider Vets Here, to expand its at-home suite of services.

Funding and financials

In November 2022, the company raised USD 40 million in a Series A funding round led by Alta Partners and Bruce Herzfelder. It planned to utilize the funds to broaden its network of mobile care in current markets, enter new ones, and introduce new services.
