BetterVet

Boston-based BetterVet is a mobile and telehealth veterinary startup that allows users to schedule video consultations and home call visits with BetterVet-partnered veterinarians, and order pet medication through its mobile app. The app also allows users to record and access medical history, past appointments, and certificates of their pets. Through video consultations, BetterVet veterinarians provide diagnoses, pet counseling, and nutrition and behavioral advice. Services such as wellness exams, sick visits, urgent care, end of life services, and diagnostics such as ultrasounds and EKGs, are offered through home visits. Veterinary surgical services that cannot be provided through video or home visits are provided at its partner hospitals. As of November 2024, the company was operating in 20+ major US cities, including Chicago, Philadelphia, Austin, and San Francisco.

BetterVet's pricing for in-home veterinary visits varies by location and service, starting at USD 89 for travel/concierge fees and USD 99 for a wellness or sick visit, with additional costs for services like blood work, vaccinations, and other add-ons.

In May 2022, the company acquired mobile veterinary service provider Vets Here, to expand its at-home suite of services.

In October 2024, the company announced that it had merged with The Vets, a veterinary services company, to create a major player in the US pet care market, valued at USD 123 billion. The merger expands its collective reach to over 30 major cities and more than 80 veterinary teams, allowing them to provide in-home care to a broader network of pet owners. The unified company was to operate under the “The Vets” brand. 

Key customers and partnerships 

In August 2023, BetterVet partnered with GlobalVetLink, an animal health compliance platform, to simplify the process of obtaining international health certificates for pets, using GlobalVetLink's Compliance Assistant Pet TravelPass to automate documentation through BetterVet's in-home checkups. In September 2023, the company partnered with United Pet Care (UPC), a pet membership program, to become its exclusive mobile veterinary provider, offering UPC members exclusive 20% savings on mobile pet care services and enhancing pet wellness options available through employee benefit packages.
