Noya develops direct air capture (DAC) technology using cost-effective and readily available materials by using a modular and scalable design. The company uses industrial cooling towers as CO2-capturing devices and adds CO2-absorbing chemicals, converting CO2 back into gas through a regeneration process. The company works with clean energy and CO2 storage companies to permanently remove CO2 from the atmosphere. In November 2023, the company designed modular DAC units with a capacity to remove ~60 tons of CO2 annually.
Noya aims to open its first testing facility in 2024 to remove ~350 tons of CO2 per year. Following that, the company plans to launch a commercial-scale facility with an annual capacity of 3 million tons of carbon.
Key customers and partnerships
The company works with organizations such as Shopify and Watershed, which have purchased Noya’s carbon removal credits. Noya also signed a multi-year agreement with a university to help them purchase carbon offsets to help meet sustainability goals.
Funding and financials
Noya’s most recent funding was in April 2023, when it raised USD 11 million in a Series A funding round co-led by Union Square Ventures and Collaborative Fund. The proceeds were intended to support team expansion, scale up testing and manufacturing capabilities, and deploy its first commercial pilot in 2023.
