Aether Diamonds, a lab-grown diamond startup, produces luxury diamonds and jewelry from carbon emissions. The company purchases CO2 from Climeworks’ facility in Switzerland and uses emissions to grow diamonds. Aether uses a proprietary process to convert CO2 into high-purity methane, which is then injected into the company’s diamond reactors. The company commits to removing 20 metric tons of CO2 from the atmosphere for every carat of diamond sold. The company is certified by the International Gemological Institute and is at the same standard as mined diamonds.
In March 2022, Aether Diamonds raised USD 18 million in a Series A funding round co-led by Helena and TRIREC. The funds were used to scale up its proprietary carbon utilization technology.
Key competitors: None comparable (Aether diamonds is the only startup that produces diamonds from carbon)
