Climatiq

German-based Climatiq is an API-based open emission factor database. The company offers a carbon calculation platform and operates as an emissions science-as-a-service solution. Climatiq’s API solution automates CO2 calculations from transport to procurement and from cloud computing to office management, providing estimates in real time. As of February 2024, the platform was widely adopted with live integrations in 16+ economic sectors and 300+ regions.

Climatiq REST API is optimized to extract carbon data from enterprises to convert them into CO2e values, which are then embedded with emission factors for visualization on the company’s Open Emission Factors Database (OEFDB).

Key customers and partnerships

In May 2022, the company collaborated with Stripe, a digital payment infrastructure provider, to launch the Climatiq Emissions Calculator app in the new Stripe App marketplace. In November 2022, Climatiq partnered with Celonis, a German-based provider of process mining and execution management solutions, to integrate carbon emission metrics into the latter’s existing platform. In November 2023, the company also joined forces with Cisco, to integrate carbon intelligence data on the latter’s Observability Platform exchange, and with Epicor, a global enterprise software provider, to integrate carbon intelligence solutions into its suite of Sustainability Management solutions in June 2024.

Climatiq also has partnerships with GHG Protocol, ecoinvent, EXIOBASE, Defra/BEIS, EPA, UBA/GEMIS, and ADEME, to source scientific data and methodologies. The company’s key customers include Salesforce, IFS, Novata, Kinaxis among others. As of February 2024, Climatiq’s platform was used by over 10,000 users.

Funding and financials

Climatiq’s most recent funding round was in October 2022, when it raised EUR 6 million (USD 5.9 million) in a seed funding round led by Singular. The funds raised were used to scale up its platform offering and refine its database. A part of the funds was to be used to fund scientific R&D activities.
