Planet Farms

Founded in 2018, Milan-based Planet Farms manufactures pesticide-free vertical farming products. Kale, Vivace, Esotico, Delicato, and Rucool are among the leafy greens produced by Planet Farms. According to the company, its products have no pesticides, use 95% less water, and are grown close to consumers, with full traceability, year-round availability, and a fully integrated supply chain. Planet Farms creates custom-made rooms known as growth rooms, which are distinct habitats best suited for each type.

Planet Farms’ first vertical farm was in Cavenago in Brianza, in the outskirts of Milan. As of February 2023, the company was working to expand throughout Italy and Europe with new vertical farms. Planet Farms has vertical farms of over 9,000 sqm and produces salad greens and aromatic herbs. Planet Farms' leafy salads can be found in the major Italian distribution chains Esselunga, Il Viaggiator Goloso, and Iper La Grande I.

In October 2022, Planet Farms partnered with Cerea brothers, owners of the 3 Michelin Star restaurant Da Vittorio, in Brusaporto, near Bergamo which led to the construction of a vertical farm in Brusaporto to supply fresh products directly to the restaurant.

In January 2023 , Planet Farms obtained a EUR 17.5 million (~USD 18.7 million) loan from UniCredit, assisted by SACE's Green Guarantee, for constructing a new farm dedicated to indoor hydroponic vegetable cultivation, beginning with baby leaf and basil salads in Cirimido, Como Province, Italy.
