Daimler Mobility Services, a division of Daimler AG (FWB: DAI), is a provider of mobility solutions. In February 2019, Daimler and BMW announced a joint venture to merge their mobility services businesses, investing EUR 1 billion in the new entity. The merger combined Daimler's car2go car-sharing service with BMW's DriveNow, creating a new brand called Share Now. This move aimed to strengthen their position in the growing urban mobility market.
The joint venture operates under five main brands:
Share Now: A free-floating car-sharing service with over 4 million customers and 20,000 vehicles in 31 cities
Reach Now: A multimodal service offering access to various mobility options through a single platform
Charge Now: An electric vehicle charging network with over 100,000 charge points across 25 countries
Park Now: A digital parking service allowing users to reserve parking spaces and manage parking times
Free Now: A ride-hailing service providing access to taxis, private chauffeurs, and e-scooters
The merger aimed to create a comprehensive mobility ecosystem, with plans to eventually offer all-electric, autonomous fleets available on demand. The combined mobility solutions from BMW and Daimler had over 60 million active users. The joint venture was based in Berlin, Germany, with expectations to create up to 1,000 new jobs as the business expanded. The companies stated that after an initial phase of investment and growth, they anticipated the venture would offer "attractive profitability."
