Dtravel, founded by former executives from Airbnb, Expedia, and Binance-backed Travala.com, is a decentralized home-sharing platform that allows guests to book short- or long-term stays, paying with either traditional payment methods or cryptocurrency, including Bitcoin, TRVL (Dtravel's native token), other cryptocurrencies, and traditional fiat currency. Dtravel operates using a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) model, through which hosts and guests have influence over decisions through voting, including issues such as last-minute cancellations and the spending of funds in the community treasury. It also leverages decentralized finance (DeFi) blockchain technology to facilitate smart contracts. As of December 2021, Dtravel had over 250,000 rentals listed on its platform.
Dtravel revealed that all the revenue generated from bookings was channelled into its Community Treasury and Protection Fund. This fund is established to benefit both hosts and guests. Dtravel's booking fees are 7.5%, and the company claims it to be lower than the average fee of 20%.
