Based in Colorado, FarmBox Foods develops and sells modular container-based vertical farms that use hydroponics and solar power to grow crops. The company offers two solutions: Vertical Hydroponic Farm (VHF), for growing leafy greens, herbs, peppers, and tree saplings, and Gourmet Mushroom Farm (GMF), for growing gourmet and medicinal mushrooms. FarmBox Foods also uses control software “Agrowtek”, where lighting, pH levels, nutrients, temperature, and humidity can be manually controlled or automated via a phone or tablet. In January 2022, FarmBox announced that it was developing a solution - the “Fodder Container Farm”  that could grow fodder for livestock. The company planned to sell the solution in Q2 2022.

FarmBox’s VHF solution uses vertical “grow tubes” and movable walls that allow them to use 900 sq ft of growing space from a 320 sq ft container and produce about 1,000 leafy greens weekly. The company also reports that GMF solution can produce up to 18 varieties of mushroom including oyster, reishi, shiitake, and chestnut with a weekly yield of 400 pounds. The company’s planned Fodder farm would reportedly produce around 1,000 pounds of feed per day.

As of April 2021, the company had supplied almost 100 farming systems to customers across Alaska, New Mexico, East Coast US, and Tahiti. Some of Farmbox’s partnered customers include Colorado-based companies Centura Health, a hospital chain, C Lazy U Ranch, a luxury tourist ranch, and Grow Girl Organics, an urban farm. In November 2022 , the company launched a reforestation program in partnership with CORE Electric Cooperative, a Colorado-based electricity cooperative. The partnership involved growing tree seedlings and saplings for CORE Electric to rehabilitate forests along the Colorado Front Range.

Farmbox has entered into manufacturing agreements with RK Mission Critical, the subsidiary of the Colorado-based construction and engineering company RK Industries, to manufacture both its VHF and GMF solutions. The partnership is stated to allow Farmbox to scale its production and provide customized solutions to its clients.
