Gander

Gander is a British startup that operates an automated real-time mobile app to track and purchase “reduced to clear” items from retail stores. The app automatically connects to a store’s point-of-sale account, inputs the respective short-dated items to the app, and removes the items from the app once they are sold.  As of December 2021, the company reports having reached 100,000 downloads and saved 1.7 million food items from being discarded.

Gander reports that it allows customers to save an average of 56% every time they shop via its app and also claims to be the first app directing customers to stickered goods that indicate that they are reaching the “best before” date. 

Gander states that its works with more than 450 food stores including The Co-op,  PriceWatch retail stores, Warner’s Supermarkets and Henderson Group stores such as Spar, Eurospar, and ViVo. Gander also revealed its 1Q 2022 plans to expand its operations into the northwest of England via a collaboration with McColl’s stores, and to Northern Ireland via a partnership with over 30 Musgrave stores, and to South Wales partnering with Nisa and Filco Group (December 2021). In February 2023 , the company integrated with the business management system from TLM technologies, evoPOS, to combat food waste.
