TerraFixing is a Canadian direct air capture (DAC) company. The company states that its DAC technology can be deployed in cold and dry climates, like those of Canada, Norway, Alaska, Russia, Finland, Greenland, the Tibetan plateau, and Antarctica.
The company states that its technology requires a single input—electrical energy—unlike other DAC technologies that require three inputs—water, heat, and electricity. This proprietary technology uses operating energies as low as one megawatt-hour per ton of CO2. As of November 2021, the company had yet to commercialize its solutions.
Key customers and partnerships
In May 2024, the company entered into a CAD 10 million (USD 7.3 million) commercial agreement with Tugliq Énergie Co., a Canadian energy solutions provider, to develop two carbon capture units (1,000 and 4,000-ton-per-year models) for use in northern Canada.
Funding and financials
In May 2024, TerraFixing raised CAD 1.6 million (USD 1.2 million) in a seed financing round co-led by Mr. Laurent Abbatiello and Dr. Pierre Rivard, founders of Tugliq. The funds raised were used for the development of the 1,000 and 4,000-ton-per-year models. In addition, the funds will support the expansion of the team and facilitate the establishment of a new R&D laboratory space at the University of Ottawa.
