DataQube is a British company building modular 5G-ready edge data centers that include high-performance compute (HPC) resources and interconnectivity between devices and data clusters. The data centers are scalable and can be deployed in buildings, warehouses, roadsides, and offices. Through its compact design, the company targets internal and external locations where traditional data center infrastructure is not feasible. Accordingly, they cater to several industries including manufacturing, smart cities, gaming, telcos, and internet service providers (ISPs).
The data centers can reportedly be deployed within six months. DataQube claims that its “person-free” layout enables it to support a greater IT load per square meter, and therefore delivers a lower carbon footprint (reduces power consumption and CO2 emissions by about 56%). Moreover, the data centers also offer immersion cooling technology, which also reduces infrastructure costs and energy consumption, relative to the more common air-cooled data centers.
Key customers and partnerships
DataQube partnered with cybersecurity company KryptoKloud Ltd. in August 2021 to embed threat detection and response monitoring capabilities to its data center units. In April 2022, Dataqube made an investment of an undisclosed amount in cooling solutions company LiquidCool to gain exclusive marketing rights for some of its cooling products in a number of markets. In June 2022, DataQube partnered with NodeWeaver, an edge cloud solutions provider, to introduce new edge computing capabilities into its line of modular data center products. In September 2022, DataQube partnered with Zeblok, a cloud native AI platform, to build an edge “pre-production lab” facility in Cambridge. This facility would enable ecosystem participants to develop vertical-focused AI solutions for use at the edge, enabling end users to test and optimize AI workloads before deployment.
Funding and financials
The company raised EUR 26 million (USD 29 million) in Series A funding led by RGREEN INVEST in December 2021 (five months after unveiling its data centers). DataQube intended to use the funds to accelerate the commercialization of its data centers.
