Escape, a Paris-based API security startup, develops solutions allowing security teams to keep up with rapid development and iteration of APIs, ensuring vulnerabilities and errors are resolved prior to deployment to production environments. The firm initially focused on securing GraphQL-based application programming interfaces (APIs), but planned to expand coverage to others, with beta testing for REST APIs live as of late June 2023.
Escape’s agentless solution provides visibility of an organization's API-served applications, applying dynamic tests during development and staging to simulate cyber attacks. The platform flags any issues that arise, identifying business logic flaws and code vulnerabilities during the development process and generates personalized remediation workflows for developers.
Escape sits within continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) workflows to automatically scan API changes and integrates with appsec platforms like Snyk for issue reporting and management. The platform also automatically identifies sensitive corporate data and personally identifiable information (PII) and generates compliance and security reports.
In May 2023, Escape launched EscapeGPT, a free tool for developers to secure ChatGPT plug-ins.
Key customers and partnerships
As of June 2023, Escape reported its solution was being used by 1,000+ organizations globally, including graph database management system Neo4J, crypto-based fantasy sports game Sorare, and Shine, Society Generale’s Neobank.
Funding and financials
Having graduated from YCombinator’s 2023 accelerator, Escape emerged from stealth in June 2023 , raising USD 5.9 million in a seed funding round led by IRIS. Escape expected to funnel the funds toward hiring specialist sales staff and engineers, aiming to increase adoption of its solutions and develop new features.
