Micro Meat

Based in Mexico, Micro Meats is a Y-combinator-backed startup that is developing a proprietary scaffolding solution, the “Micro”, that can accelerate the production of cultivated meat. Micro Meat intends to sell or lease its scaffolding technology to B2B customers. It is also the first Mexican cultivated meat startup and has successfully demonstrated its capabilities by producing cultivated pork with its technology.

The company claims that Micro can increase yields of cultivated meat by 1000x compared to conventional solutions, eliminates the issues of shear stress during cell proliferation, and has consistent cell distribution within the scaffolds. The scaffolding is also compatible with mammal cells, birds, and fish. Micro Meat offers its scaffold bio-inks on a subscription basis and through single orders. A liter of its scaffolding can produce up to 2-5kg of cultivated meat.

Key customers and partnerships

In October 2022, the company partnered with space station developer Orbital Assembly(OA) to grow cultivated meat onboard OA’s pioneer-class space stations and apply this project's learnings to scale production.
