Israeli-based BetterSeeds (formerly CanBreed) develops resiliency traits in crops using its gene editing technology.
BetterSeeds uses CRISPR gene editing technology and its in-house Efficient Delivery of Gene Editing (EDGE) system which supports the former’s use across a broader range of crops. It also has its trait platform YieldMAX, which uses two patented crop genes to overcome drought and heat challenges, saving 70% of water and reducing reliance on energy-intensive desalination. YieldMAX also reduces greenhouse gas emissions through lowered energy use.
Key customers and partnerships
BetterSeeds partnered with and received licenses from Merck's life science division MilliporeSigma in February 2022 for the latter’s CRISPR intellectual property and from the Bulgarian Center of Plant Systems Biology and Biotech (CPSBB) in February 2023 for its gene targets to BetterSeeds.
