Sepura Home is a Canadian company that offers a food waste separation device designed to replace traditional garbage disposals. The device collects solid food waste in a sealed container while allowing liquids to flow down the drain using proprietary technology.
Sepura developed the first prototype of its food waste separation device in 2018 and later refined it to become the Sepura 1.0. The company then debuted the Sepura 2.0 design at CES in 2020. The device is said to handle all types of food scraps, including peels and bones, and has a carbon filter and controlled air intakes to eliminate food scrap smells. LED indicators on the device signal when it's time to empty the bin. Sepura claims to send 99.9% of food scraps into the collection bin, with only liquids going down the drain. The Sepura has a bin volume of 2.6 gallons (10 liters).
Sepura is available for pre-order, with the first batch already shipped to customers across North America. As of April 2023, the second batch of pre-orders was open, with an estimated shipping date of July 2023. The product was slated to be available for direct purchase by summer 2023. Customers can secure a unit with a USD 100 deposit and pay the remaining balance of USD 699.99 when the unit is ready to ship.
Funding and financials
In April 2023, Sepura Home raised USD 3.7 million in seed funding to expand into the North American market and meet growing consumer demand for its waste-separating device.
