Collaborative Robots (also known as Cobot), founded by Brad Porter, former vice president and engineer of Amazon Robotics, develops a novel type of mobile manipulator robots designed to work alongside humans in various industries. Cobot's robot is described as human-capable but not humanoid, with a design that allows it to move boxes, totes, and carts more efficiently than humanoid robots.
The robot is just under six feet tall, can carry up to 75 pounds, and can move carts with payloads up to 1,500 pounds. It features a four-wheeled omnidirectional base with a swerve-drive design and a central structure for acquiring, carrying, and placing items.
The robot is designed to be more cost-effective and easier to deploy than traditional automation solutions, with 70% of its parts being off-the-shelf components. Cobot's technology combines hardware with advanced AI and machine learning capabilities for navigation and task learning.
Key customers and partnerships
As of April 2024, the company’s product was in trials with several pilot customers.
Key competitors: None comparable (Collaborative Robots is the only startup with the Smart Factory industry that offers mobile manipulator robots.)
