Atlas Edge, formed via a joint venture by Liberty Global (a video and broadband communications company) and DigitalBridge (an investment firm), offers colocation data centers for the edge. The company provides access to low latency infrastructure for enterprise customers such as internet and network service providers. It also provides interconnectivity options between multiple data center locations as well as cloud and internet exchange point services.
As of April 2023, its European network of over 100 data center locations spanned across 13 countries including the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, and the UK. In October 2022, AtlasEdge acquired Datacenter One, a German datacenter provider, for an undisclosed amount to accelerate its expansion across Germany.
Key customers and partnerships
In 2023, AtlasEdge entered partnerships with PacketFabric (March) and Megaport (January) to provide its customers with direct and multi-cloud connectivity across its locations in Germany and the UK. Furthermore, the company had plans to expand Megaport’s software defined network (SDN) to more of its locations across Europe in the future.
Funding and financials
In April 2023, AtlasEdge secured a EUR 725 million (~USD 799 million) credit facility underwritten by ING Bank, ABN Amro, Crédit Agricole CIB, The Bank of Nova Scotia, and National Westminster Bank, among others.
The financing package consists of EUR 525 million (~USD 578 million) in committed debt financing and EUR 200 million (~USD 220 million) in uncommitted accordion. The company planned to use the accordion feature to support customer-led growth projects and expand its facility. Furthermore, the funding was also earmarked to support further strategic M&A activity and the building of new edge data center sites across Europe.
