Again (previously SecondCircle) is a biomanufacturing company spun out by researchers at the Technical University of Denmark. The company recycles waste CO2 into carbon-negative chemicals. Again has bioreactors that capture CO2 at the source at industrial sites. It specializes in a fermentation process using natural-gas-eating bacteria to turn CO2 into carbon-negative chemicals. The company’s outputs include acetic acid, ethanol, and acetone used in applications such as detergents, paints, pharmaceuticals, and textiles.
In November 2023, the company opened its first carbon utilization plant in Copenhagen, Denmark, to convert CO2 waste into chemical products using gas-eating bacteria. In addition, Again’s technology is also used in the “PyroCO2” project to scale the production of value-added chemicals and materials produced from CO2.
Key customers and partnerships
In February 2024, Again partnered with international chemical corporation HELM for the distribution and commercialization of Again’s initial product, acetic acid.
