Carbon Reform is a direct air capture company focused on decarbonizing commercial buildings by integrating with indoor heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. The company’s technology enables customers to conserve energy, improve air quality, and capture CO2 permanently.
Carbon Reform's modular retrofit device, the Carbon Capsule, diverts and purifies return air from commercial buildings, removing CO2, volatile organic compounds, particulates, and pathogens, so the air can be safely recirculated to occupants. In June 2023, the company initially installed its Carbon Capsule as a pilot test at the M. Davis & Sons facility in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, US.
The company stores the CO2 in a carbon-negative limestone, making it possible for buildings to qualify for valuable carbon credits. The limestone can then be used in steel and glass manufacturing, mining, paper production, water treatment and purification, and agriculture.
Key customers and partnerships
In April 2023, Carbon Reform partnered with Kajima Corporation to install indoor air quality sensors to prepare the latter’s Technical Research Institute in Tokyo for the Carbon Capsule modular device integration.
Funding and financials
The company’s latest funding round was in November 2022, when it raised USD 3 million in a seed funding round led by Azolla Ventures, for team expansion, scaling up its facilities, and the deployment of its first full-scale pilot units in commercial buildings.
