Founded in 2013, Fuenix Ecogy is a Dutch circular technology company that converts plastic waste to its original form: oil. The company operates a fully functioning recycling plant in Weert.
Fuenix Ecogy Group has developed the hybrid Fuenix Ecogy technology to process “end of life” sorted post-consumer packaging material (mixed waste plastics) into premium circular feedstocks (naphtha, paraffin, and LPG). The company claims its technology has the unique advantage of converting 70% of every kilogram of plastic into new plastic with half the CO2 emissions.
The company claims that the plastic made from its feedstock is 100% circular, reduces the global demand for virgin raw materials, reduces CO2 emissions by 65%, and is of high quality.
In August 2019, Fuenix Ecogy partnered with Dow Chemicals to supply pyrolysis oil feedstock from recycled plastic waste to produce new polymers at Dow's production facilities in Terneuzen, the Netherlands.
Further, in February 2023 , Sulzer, a leading fuel engineering company, signed an agreement with Fuenix Ecogy to acquire a stake in its plastic upcycling business. The acquisition would allow Sulzer Chemtech to offer complete and partial recycling lines based on Fuenix's Ecogy pyrolysis technology. The agreement also broadens Sulzer Chemtech's technology-licensing portfolio for polymer processing.
