Based in Norway and founded in 2021, VerticalAgri is developing an aquaponic vertical farm to produce leafy greens. In January 2022, the company announced plans to build a 15,000 sq meter (161,000 sq ft) vertical farm in Norway that would supply five cities in the country. The company also launched a pilot farm in Svalbard, Sweden to test its aquaponic cultivation system. The company expected to carry out first cultivation in March 2022, where it expected to harvest strawberries, leafy greens, salads, and microgreens and demonstrate the potential of the company’s vertical farming technology.
The company also aims to offer smaller modular farming systems up to 300 sq meters (3,200+ sq ft) in size, targeting remote villages, and can supply at least three local stores. In addition, the company had plans to offer modular systems for dairy farmers that can grow up to 800 kg of fodder per day.
