Mash Makes is a Denmark-based company that was spun off from the Technological University of Denmark. The company has developed portable waste-to-energy machinery that produces bio-oil, hydrogen, and electricity from agricultural waste.
The company’s “TwoStage gasifier” technology produces high-quality hydrogen and biofuel from waste feedstocks. It processes feedstocks with hydro-carbon and converts them into a synthetic gas using thermochemistry. The syngas is combusted in a gas engine, which drives a generator. Mash Makes’ production process also offers biochar as a by-product, which is a soil amendment that can absorb CO2 from the atmosphere.
Mash Makes intends to roll out its platform through a series of Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs). As of October 2023, the company had led four SPVs in India, with the latest unit accepting investors in 2H 2023.
Key customers and partnerships
In August 2023, the company received a strategic investment from NORDEN, a Danish shipping company, to provide renewable fuels, specifically bio-oil, at favorable pricing.
In October 2023, Mash Makes partnered with Supercritical to accelerate two biochar-based carbon removal projects in India.
