Redivivus is a Colorado-based company that provides end-of-life battery logistics and the recovery of critical energy materials using its patented and trademarked Redi-Shred and Redi-Cycle technologies.

Redi-Shred, which is the company’s battery logistics solution, is in the testing phase and is yet to be unveiled as of May 2023. The system comprises three main components: 1) Cryogenics to slow down the thermal kinetics of batteries; 2) specialized shredding equipment and conveyance; and 3) a neutralizing bath to prepare the material for transport. The process involves freezing batteries, shredding them into fine pieces, neutralizing the latent potential energy of the batteries, and transporting the shredded material to a recycling facility for further processing. Redi-Shred aims to generate revenue through pick-up fees for collecting and processing used batteries, as well as by selling inert battery material.

Redi-Cycle is the company’s lithium-ion battery recycling process that uses a hybrid approach, combining hydrometallurgical and electrochemical recycling to convert battery materials into secondary materials of high purity. The end product is a metallic alloy known as “Redivivus Nickel,” consisting of nickel and cobalt. As of May 2023, Redivivus has completed a proof of concept (PoC) for Redi-Cycle. During the PoC, a minimum recovery rate of 92% was achieved for nickel and cobalt, ensuring high purity for Redivivus Nickel. Additionally, other elements such as copper, manganese, iron, and lithium were also recovered at significant levels. Redi-Cycle expects to generate revenue by selling Redivivus Nickel and various scrap materials produced as a result of the recycling process. (May 2023)

Key customers and partnerships

In September 2021, Redivivus signed an agreement with Power Global, a leading provider of high-performance clean energy, to support Power Global in transforming the lifecycle of lithium-ion batteries. The company also partnered with Arcimoto, an electric vehicle manufacturer, in July 2021 to launch a battery recycling program. In June 2023, the company partnered with AMOS Manufacturing, an industrial shredding equipment manufacturer, for the development of an advanced battery recycling equipment system.

Funding and financials

In January 2023, Redivivus obtained an investment from ENEOS Innovation Partners to support the development of Redi-Shred and the creation of a mobile system designed for specific use cases, such as the deployment of battery logistics vehicles. This investment marks the completion of Redivivus' pre-seed fundraising round, totaling more than USD 1 million.
