Founded in 2020, Teal Health provides at-home cervical cancer screenings for women. The company is currently developing a novel self-collection device/wand for obtaining samples for testing and will provide users with consultations with medical professionals to guide users with collecting samples, interpreting results, and any other follow-up-related actions. While Teal’s current focus is on cervical cancer, the company’s long-term plan is to build out a holistic women’s telehealth platform. The company operates on a D2C model, charging patients on a fee-per-service basis.
Funding and financials
In January 2023, Teal Health raised USD 8.8 million in a seed funding round with participation from Serena Ventures (led by tennis star Serena Williams), Metrodora (led by writer Chelsea Clinton), and Emerson Collective (led by Laurene Powell Jobs). The raised funds were set aside to accelerate product development, carry out clinical testing, and obtain FDA approval for its “collection wand” device.
