RAIKU Packaging

Raiku Packaging is an Estonian CleanTech startup that develops low-footprint packaging filling material made from natural wood. Raiku offers two products: Wrap and Springs. Wraps made from natural wood replace conventional plastic bubble wraps that are used as packaging to protect products. The wood-based Springs are used as protective to withhold damage of a product. The company claims that both solutions can be used for a wide range of package filling needs owing to their protective properties. The company is able to produce wrap in different sizes, flexibility, and toughness depending on customer requirements. Springs have been developed to leave no dust and can be disposed of in biowaste, as they are 100% wood.

The company claims that compared to traditional packaging materials, its product saves deforestation by 10x, requires 50x less energy, and uses zero chemicals, making it compostable. Raiku reports that it can convert 1 m3 of wood into 20 m3 of packaging material.

The company launched production in May 2023. As of October 2023, Raiku plans to open its first factory and scale production globally and cater to international customers, expanding on its established European footprint.

The company targets customers across various industries, including ceramic, cosmetics, and more. In November 2023, tilk! cosmetics used Raiku’s fillers in its Black Friday orders as part of its minimal packaging approach and reported zero broken items.
