OSMOSUN (formerly Mascara) is a French company specializing in low-carbon seawater and brackish water desalination solutions, powered by photovoltaic solar energy without batteries. It is reportedly the only company of its kind. The company's technologies, Solar PV-SWRO and BWRO OSMOSUN, use reverse osmosis and can be installed as off-grid or grid-connected systems. The company operates in more than 30 countries in Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific regions. As of December 20223, 69 desalination plants had been sold in 27 countries.
OSMOSUN offers several solutions: OSMO-WATT, a solar-powered container that produces five to 150 m3 of water per day; OSMOSUN TAPS, a solar-powered solution for long-term water distribution in remote areas; and OSMOSUN NOMAD, a water treatment unit that purifies various water sources and meets WHO standards. The company's standard off-the-shelf units produce hourly freshwater between 100 l and 15 m3/h (or up to 350 m3/day) and its customized units produce hourly freshwater between 15 and 110 m3/h (or up to 2600 m3/day). For higher capacities, OSMOSUN can be placed in parallel to reach 50,000 m3 per day.
