MishiPay is a London-based startup that offers a self-checkout system powered by Radio Frequency ID and cloud computing. MishiPay provides an app that allows shoppers to scan the barcodes of products and carry out payments using their mobile devices. In May 2022, the company introduced a progressive web apps (PWA) solution to allow customers to use their self-checkout solution without the need to install and launch an Android app. The company claims the PWA increases transactions by 10 times and has a higher user adoption rate than platform-specific apps.
In August 2016, MishiPay partnered with Cisco UK, and had its first commercial deployment at Deloitte’s “Store of the Future”in London. Subsequent partnerships include the Cisco Innovation Store in San Jose, Calif., Echangeur BNP Paribas in France, and the WeShop Germany within a Cisco office in 2017; French DIY retailer Dufry, French DIY retailer Leroy Merlin, and consumer electronics store Austrian Media Market Saturn Express in 2018; and Decathlon Scan & Go in the Netherlands in 2019. In March 2021, MishiPay technology was Piloted in 30 Flying Tiger Copenhagen stores (variety store chain) in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. In January 2022, following a successful pilot, the technology was launched at 24 London Flying Tiger locations. In addition, in March 2021 the company also launched in US airports in collaboration with Paradies Lagardère, a North America-based airport retailer and restaurateur, and expanded to Germany via Instore Solutions, a Germany-based integrator (MishiPay tech was included in Instore Solutions’ product offerings to the DACH region [Germany, Austria, and Switzerland]). In June 2021, MishiPay partnered with fashion retailer Desigual’s stores in Spain, with initial testing in five stores across Madrid and Barcelona, and in November 2021, partnered with Nude Foods Market, a US grocery retailer focused on zero waste. In September 2022, MishiPay launched its operations in the UAE by deploying its self-checkout technology across retail chain Virgin Megastore outlets. As of April 2022, the company was reportedly deployed across 30 brands in 12 countries.
