Meal kit startup Sunbasket merged with Prüvit, a keto supplement manufacturer, for USD 1.3 billion in January 2022 to provide ketogenic meal kits. The newly merged entity was to be called PSB Holdings and aimed to create a single wellness platform. The company planned to offer both food kits and supplements to an existing community of health and fitness users.
Prior to the merged entity, Sunbasket offers customers a variety of options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The startup offers menus that cater to a range of diets such as paleo, gluten-free, carb-conscious, diabetes-friendly, and pescatarian.
In January 2021, Sunbasket announced the expansion to full-service meal delivery, including ready-to-heat meals and a range of food items such as sides, snacks, and pantry staples. Its “Fresh & Ready” meals category provides oven-ready meals that are included in its weekly menu options priced at USD 10.99 per serving. Sunbasket delivers meal kits to most US states, except Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, New Mexico, and North Dakota.
In October 2021, the company signed a prepared meals partnership with online grocery delivery service Instacart. Instacart Marketplace will feature a Sunbasket-branded storefront that allows customers to purchase a meal starting at USD 11.99 per serving, with the option of weekly delivery with no subscription. This partnership is expected to allow Sunbasket to reach more than 85% of US households.
Its latest funding in May 2019 raised USD 30 million in a Series E funding round, led by PivotNorth Capital. Funding was used to expand the company’s offerings and personalization options based on different lifestyles.
