Finland-based Basemark’s flagship Rocksolid AR platform allows vehicle manufacturers to develop and manage AR applications. The platform consists of two components: 1) a low-code AR editor for developing, debugging, and testing AR applications for in-vehicle screens and 2) an AR software development kit (SDK), which manages AR optimization tasks to ensure correct alignment of AR content being displayed on the driver’s field of view (FOV).
The suite allows for the deployment of AR overlays that remain anchored to real-world infrastructure, regardless of vehicle motion. Further, the overlays automatically avoid blocking critical information on the road for a safe driving experience. The company claims that the use of its tech reduces at least two chips per car produced, translating into 200 million chips per year and saving 320 tons of fossil fuel.
The company’s Rocksolid Compute platform provides a library of cross-platform accelerated math operations and reference implementations of the basic building blocks for computer vision, inferencing, and various ADAS functionalities. This complements its Basemark Automotive Test Suite (BATS) offering, a software-on-chip (SoC) evaluation tool, allowing developers to run test scenarios on target systems.
Other services offered by the company include bespoke automotive software development solutions and the provision of benchmarks and tests of GPU performance on desktop and mobile devices.
Key customers and partnerships
Notable enterprises using Basemark’s tech include BMW, Lamborghini, NVIDIA, and Samsung.
Basemark’s network of partners specializing in AR application development, AD and ADAS testing, or functional safety include Acsia, Audiokinetic, Ceres Holographics, and Dispelix, among others.
Funding and financials
In April 2024, Basemark raised USD 23.9 million in a Series B funding round led by ETF Partners. The funds were earmarked to 1) expand its business original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the US, Europe, Japan, China, and South Korea and 2) enhance its Rocksolid AR software tools platform for automotive applications.
