France-based Zoe Care has developed Zoe Fall, an invisible elder care assistant to support seniors living at home or in-care facilities. This assistant can provide preventive analysis of the daily activity and habits of the seniors and can also send alerts to caregivers or medical professionals in case of emergencies. The device non-invasively detects human activities and movements, including falls, through an in-built sensor that collects and analyzes Wi-Fi signals in an area. If a fall occurs, these signals are converted into alerts that are sent to a mobile application. A single device can cover an area of up to 800 sq ft, serving multiple rooms or even a whole floor while also serving as a smart plug. This technology is based on the research of the University of Paris-Saclay.
As of January 2024, Zoe Care noted that the device was being beta tested in nursing homes, with the consumer version expected to be made available by the end of 2024. The company had plans to charge a fee of USD 20–30 per month with no upfront cost for the device. Zoe Care further noted that it had plans to expand this technology for applications in remote patient monitoring and monitoring of patients with chronic diseases.
