Pika provides a GenAI-based video editing platform. It enables anyone to become a creative director by making high-quality video content accessible to a wide range of users, from home creators to industry professionals.

The company launched Pika 1.0 in November 2023, an upgrade that introduced a new AI model enabling various video styles like 3D animation, anime, or cinematic, alongside a revamped web interface for enhanced usability. It offers text-to-video and image-to-video capabilities, enabling users to generate short, high-quality videos from text snippets or uploaded images. Furthermore, the platform offers video-to-video transformations enabling the conversion of existing videos into varied styles while preserving the original structure. Pika also facilitates expansion of video canvases or aspect ratios, AI-based content editing, including attire changes, environment modification, and length extension for existing video clips.

In October 2024, Pika launched its 1.5 model, an advanced video generation tool with new features. Pika 1.5 introduced "Pikaffects," which includes Melt it, Inflate it, Explode it, Squish it, Crush it, Cake-ify it, crumble, dissolve, deflate, and 'ta-da'. The model also featured more lifelike human and creature motion and advanced camera movements like bullet time, dolly movements, and panning.

The platform was offered in beta on Discord as of November 2023 with a waitlist to join Pika 1.0.

Key customers and partnerships

Launched initially in beta on Discord, Pika has attracted over 500,000 users who generate millions of videos weekly. Notably, top users invest up to 10 hours daily on Pika, resulting in viral content on platforms like TikTok, garnering nearly 30 million views.
