Skyfly Technologies Ltd. designs and manufactures electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. The company's flagship product is the Axe, a two-seat personal eVTOL aircraft that combines vertical takeoff and landing capabilities with conventional airplane operations. The Axe features a four-winged design, which enables it to fly, take off, and land like a conventional airplane in addition to its vertical capabilities. This design allows increased range and safety compared to rotor-only eVTOLs.
The Axe has a fully electric range of 100 miles or 300 miles with an optional hybrid generator and a cruise speed of 100mph. It utilizes eight-motor distributed propulsion for enhanced safety and is equipped with a ballistic parachute. The aircraft is designed to be easy to operate as a consumer camera drone and can be flown with an existing airplane pilot's license. Skyfly follows certification routes for private kit-built aircraft, which reduces costs and allows the Axe to be priced at USD 180,000.
Skyfly claims its approach differs from commercial air taxi developers in that it focuses on personal use and utilizes existing technology from proven suppliers for key components. Skyfly’s Axe has been proven first through extensive computational fluid dynamic analysis and modeling, followed by its prototype being tested by its team of aeronautical engineers. The company claims that it emphasizes efficiency, with the Axe's four-wing design, which is unique in the market, providing high energy efficiency compared to other two-seat eVTOL aircraft.
In October 2024, the company completed its first manned test flights for Axe, after receiving authorization from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to begin the test flights. The Axe was available for pre-order on the company’s website, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2025.
Key customers and partnerships
Skyfly Technologies partnered with Air Courtage Assurances and Embention in February 2023. The partnership with Air Courtage was for the underwriting and provision of insurance exclusively for clients of Skyfly’s Axe aircraft. Embention was selected as the sole supplier of avionics systems and motor controllers for the Axe eVTOL aircraft.
In January 2024, Skyfly announced a partnership with AeroVolt, an electric aircraft charging company, to conduct the UK's first airfield-to-airfield eVTOL flight, using AeroVolt's operational public charging network.
