EvolutionaryScale develops AI models for applications in the field of biotechnology. The company's core offering, ESM3, is a GenAI model trained on a dataset of 2.78 billion proteins, which can reason over the sequence, structure, and function of proteins, enabling it to generate novel proteins for use in drug discovery, carbon capture, and materials science. The model has 98 billion parameters and is trained using 1 trillion teraflops of computing.
The model has generated a new variant of the Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP), a process that is claimed to take 500 million years to occur naturally.
Key customers and partnerships
In June 2024, the company entered into partnership with AWS, to allow the ESM3 model family available on AWS's generative AI and health services, including Amazon SageMaker, Amazon Bedrock, and AWS HealthOmics.
In the same month, EvolutionaryScale partnered with Nvidia to optimize ESM3 for training and inference performance. The model will be available through Nvidia's BioNeMo NIMs (Nvidia Instance Microservices) and supported by Nvidia's AI Enterprise software license.
