Kaia Health is a digital therapeutics company that provides personalized physical therapy and chronic care management solutions for a range of musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease via a mobile app. The app acts as a digital trainer, by tracking a user’s body movements through their camera (mobile phone) and using proprietary motion analysis technology and computer vision to provide real-time feedback. Kaia, unlike its competitors, uses a purely software-based approach to treating MSK, without the need for additional sensor-based devices.
It offers a 12-week pain management program comprising access to unlimited 1-on-1 support from certified health coaches, daily curated physical exercises, relaxation exercises, and knowledge modules. The company has also expanded access to underserved communities, launching a Spanish-language version of its MSK platform in January 2024. Further, in May 2024, launched the Balance Program for people aged 65 and above as an extension to its digital musculoskeletal therapy.
Key customers and partnerships
As of May 2024, Kaia Health had enrolled over 560,000 users worldwide as well as around 2,000 enterprise clients, covering 90 million lives. The company’s key corporate clients include Fairway Independent Mortgage Corp., Alstom, and Lafargeholcim. Kaia Health has partnered with several health plans, such as VirginPulse, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and UnitedHealthcare.
In October 2021, the company partnered with Luna, an on-demand physical therapy provider to expand into in-person care.
Funding and financials
In April 2021, Kaia Health concluded a EUR 62 million (USD 75 million) Series C funding round led by an unnamed group of investors, and the funds were used to expand its MSK capabilities and COPD solutions across the US and Europe.
