RedRock Biometrics offers a proprietary software (PalmID) for palm authentication for payment and loyalty programs. The platform can be integrated with standard third-party RGB or infrared cameras (with a resolution of 0.3 MP or above), indicating that devices with cameras such as smartphones, ATMs, and desktops can be used as terminals.
The company claims that users can be authenticated in under 100 milliseconds (depending on CPU speed) and that dirty hands, scars, or insufficient illumination will not prevent authentication.
The software converts palm images to unique signatures, which users can link with their payment modes to authenticate transactions by showing their palms to the camera. The technology uses machine vision to detect palms in a video stream and uses it for enrolment and verification.
The company claims its software can be used to authenticate payments in several settings, including virtual worlds, physical security, and cash withdrawals.
