oak9 provides an infrastructure as code (IaC) security platform to automate cloud-native security across the entire software development lifecycle for developers. The platform continuously detects, analyzes, and remediates security and compliance issues in real time, as changes occur in IaC and cloud workloads. The company’s security as code (SaC) blueprints secure cloud applications by supporting over 20 compliance standards including the HIPAA and SOC2. oak9 opened its new office in India in February 2022.Funding and financialsIn June 2022, the company <a href="https://sp-edge.com/updates/11390">raised USD 8 million </a>in an additional round of funding led by Menlo Ventures, bringing the total funding raised to USD 14 million. The funds were expected to be used to expand its free Community Edition, grow its headcount and revenue, and launch its open-source SaC solution, which will extend oak9’s proprietary security blueprints for additional guardrails.

Natural Fertilizers

Based in Florida, Anuvia converts organic waste such as excrement, food waste, and agricultural processing waste into granular biofertilizers using a proprietary catalytic process called “TRX” for applications in the agriculture, turf, and lawn care industries. Using the TRX technology, the fertilizer contains electrostatically charged (positive and negative) particles, which bond with nutrients, leading to increased nutrient availability with a slow nutrient release mechanism. Its product is also verified by Environmental Resources Management (ERM), a leading global environmental consulting firm, to have a lower environmental impact compared to traditional fertilizer on corn, rice, and cotton. Anuvia also states that its fertilizer reduces greenhouse gasses in production by up to 32%, compared with the use of conventional fertilizers (2019).SymTRX targets crops such as corn, soybeans, wheat, canola, sugar beans, and sugar beets, claiming that it increases farmers’ return on investment by 5x. Based on trials conducted in 2019, using SymTRX instead of AMS (ammonium sulfate) showed an average yield increase of 5% across corn, rice, and canola crops. In addition, 70.3% of trials conducted on corn in 2019 reported a positive net income for growers using SymTRX.&nbsp;As of June 2022, Anuvia’s products are commercially available in the US and it reported that it was working with international partners to expand its technology worldwide, alongside plans to expand further in North America. The company operates two manufacturing facilities across Zellwood and Plant City in Florida, with a total production capacity of 1.2 million tons. It also reported that its products have been used by almost 1,200 farms (February 2021), with plans to cover 20 million acres of farmland by 2025. In April 2022, it was reported that Anuvia recorded a 43.6% CAGR in revenue from 2017 to 2020.&nbsp;Key customers and partnershipsIn September 2019, Anuvia entered into a long-term lease agreement with The Mosaic Company (a leading producer of phosphate and potash) to use a part of the latter’s unused phosphate production facility in Plant City, Florida. This expansion led to the increase of the company’s production capacity to 1.2 million tons per year, amidst increasing demand for its fertilizers, from 80,000 tons in April 2016. Anuvia extended its partnership with The Mosaic Company in September 2020 after signing a commercial agreement to license its SymTRX technology to The Mosaic Company for sales in the US under the brand name “Susterra by Mosaic.” In October 2021, Anuvia partnered with Novozymes, a Denmark-based global biotechnology company, to jointly identify and develop new products aimed at increasing the nutrient efficiency of crops. The partnership would initially combine Novozymes’ phosphate biofertilizer technology with Anuvia’s fertilizer technology to enhance phosphorus uptake as much as up to 10+ units, with later developments focusing on increasing the uptake of nitrogen and potassium.&nbsp;Funding and financialsIn April 2022, Anuvia raised USD 65.5 million in Series D funding co-led by Riverstone Holdings LLC and Piva Capital. The funds were to be used to increase production capacity and for the commercialization of its SymTRX XP biofertilizer products for large-scale agricultural use.&nbsp;

Novel therapies to reboot cells and organs

Cell & Gene Therapy

Senti Biosciences is a developer of cell therapies for oncology, immunology, neuroscience, cardiovascular diseases, regenerative medicine, and genetic diseases. The company uses DNA sequences to design and optimize gene circuits in cells to reprogram and edit cell circuits to target particular diseases using chimeric antigen receptor natural killer cells (CAR-NK cells), gene therapies, and cell therapies. The company is listed on the Nasdaq and trades under the ticker symbol SNTI. As of May 2024, the company had one therapeutic candidate for the treatment of Acute myeloid leukemia, Myelodysplastic syndromes, and other blood cancers. Its candidate for blood cancer was in early clinical stages. The company additionally had three partner therapeutics it was developing: 1) SENTI-301A for the treatment of liver cancer (in partnership with Celest); 2) multiple gene therapy programs to treat eye diseases, central nervous diseases, and liver diseases (in partnership with Roche and Spark Therapeutics); and 3) multiple stem cell regenerative therapy programs (in partnership with Bayer and Blue Rock Therapeutics). Key customers and partnerships As of September 2023, the company had two therapeutic collaboration programs to develop a therapeutic for regenerative medicine with BlueRock Therapeutics (a member of the Bayer group) and a therapeutic for eye, central nervous system (CNS), and liver disease with Spark Therapeutics (a member of the Roche group). The collaboration agreements were signed with Bayer in May 2021 and with Roche in April 2021.In November 2023, the company partnered with China-based biotechnology company Celest Therapeutics to develop SENTI-301A in China. Through the partnership, Celest agreed to lead clinical development, operations, and manufacturing for the advancement of SENTI-301A while receiving technical support from Senti Bio. Senti Bio was eligible to receive up to $156 million in certain milestone payments, in addition to potential tiered royalty payments.
