Virta Health provides reversal treatments for Type 2 diabetes through behavioral and lifestyle changes while reducing dependence on medication. Users are monitored via Virta’s remote monitoring devices and receive continuous medical supervision from and access to Virta’s dedicated health coaches three times a day. As of 2021, the company has signed up more than 200 enterprise customers, including Blue Shield of California (3.7 million members), the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, US Foods, Nielsen, and Purdue University.

In October 2020, the company also extended its service offering to include prediabetes reversal, obesity treatment, and provider-led management for Type 2 diabetes.

In February 2023, Virta Health joined the care network of the Blue Shield of California , an independent member of the Blue Shield Association health plan. Through this partnership select members of the Blue Shield of California gained access to Virta Health’s services from February 2023. This marked an expansion of the two companies' previous partnership, where Vitra Health was offered under Blue Shield’s “Wellvolution,” a platform offering digital lifestyle apps.

Key customers and partnerships

In March 2022, Virta Health partnered with Google Cloud to develop AI tools for diabetes care management. Through the partnership, Virta used several Google Cloud tools to develop an AI tool to sift through de-identified patient data in order to identify patients that would most benefit from proactive care.

Funding and financials

In April 2021, Virta Health raised USD 133 million in Series E funding that brought total funds raised to USD 366 million. The new round values the company at USD 2 billion from USD 1.1 billion in December 2020, nearly doubling its value in under five months.
