OriginTrail

Slovenia-based OriginTrail offers supply chain management solutions that enable multiple parties to append data to products and components at each stage of the supply chain. The data, stored on an immutable ledger, represents the lifecycle of products such as food, clothing, components, and raw materials. This system provides a transparent history of each step of the manufacturing, distribution, and transportation processes using QR codes, sensors, and other smart devices​. Industries such as manufacturing, distribution, and retail can particularly benefit from OriginTrail's solutions as it helps to verify conditions at each step in the supply route and prevents counterfeits​.

The OriginTrail Decentralized Network (ODN) and its native TRAC token power the platform's operations. The TRAC token, an Ethereum ERC-20 utility token, is pre-mined and non-inflationary, and it plays several roles in the ecosystem, such as publishing data to the ODN and collateralization​.

Notably, the platform boasts several certifications and licenses from regulators and compliance bodies such as The Food Safety Market, US Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism, and UK Customs.

OriginTrail has also established a collaborative hub known as the “Trace Alliance.” It brings together businesses, academics, and technology leaders to create enterprise-scale, blockchain-based solutions for supply chains. The Trace Alliance acts as a data marketplace for businesses that want to integrate the OriginTrail protocol into existing supply chain management systems​.

Key customers and partnerships

In January 2019, OriginTrail announced a partnership with the British Standards Institution (BSI). Through this partnership, OriginTrail aims to co-develop solutions based on blockchain technology in global supply chains and validate and verify the quality of data and organizations across the globe​​. The platform also had ongoing partnerships with various organizations and governmental and regulatory bodies, such as SCAN, Polkadot, Parity, Walmart, World Federation of Hemophilia, Oracle, and the European Commission's Next Generation Internet initiative. Through such collaborations, the platform enhances its knowledge foundation and applicability across various industries.

In January 2023, Trace Labs, the development company of OriginTrail, joined the Sustainable Medicines Partnership (SMP), a non-profit collaboration among 48 organizations, to collaborate and share industry knowledge that helps with designing industry relevant knowledge assets on the OriginTrail Decentralized Knowledge Graph (DKG).
