Rendever offers VR experiences for elders to help combat social isolation by letting them relive past experiences (reminiscence therapy) through tours of significant places from the past or famous landmarks. These can also be shared by many members, enhancing social engagement. Family members can contribute through photos and other content to Rendever’s collection of experiences that are produced in-house or through partners. A standard Rendever system comes with four VR headsets and a tablet. The platform charges USD 1,000 upfront for the hardware, installation, and training, plus a monthly fee for content and support services (USD 300–400).

In January 2023, Rendever acquired Alcove, a VR platform focused on addressing concerns of the elderly using shared family experiences, for an undisclosed amount as it sought to improve its product offerings. Its previous launch, RendeverFit, a VR fitness package considered to be the first VR application to combine physical exercise, cognitive fitness, and social engagement for seniors, was launched in January 2022. This followed the launch of EnvisonHome, a VR experience that marketers can use to demo facilities to family members of potential residents during the Covid-19 pandemic, in September 2020.

The company had deployed more than one million VR experiences across more than 400 senior living communities in the US, Canada, and Australia as of February 2022. It also reported a 96% retention rate for clients who have used the platform for more than two years.

Key customers and partnerships

Rendever works with senior living operators such as Revera, Oakmont, Benchmark, and SRG as well as healthcare systems such as UCHealth and Baptist Memorial Health Care Corporation.

Funding and financials

The company received a USD 2 million phase II grant (August 2021) from the National Institute of Aging—part of the National Institute of Health—to fund a multi-site clinical trial to develop research on the impact of its VR solutions on seniors, together with the University of California Santa Barbara. Phase I results showed evidence that families and residents were satisfied and felt emotionally closer to their loved ones following the sessions.
