Avy is a Netherlands-based drone manufacturer and operator of wing drones for medical deliveries, monitoring and inspection, and first response missions. Its next-generation drone “Avy Area,” unveiled in December 2021, is a fully autonomous fixed-wing drone with electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL). It can fly at a cruise speed of around 56 mph, carrying a payload of roughly 6.6 lbs and covering a distance of around 62 miles. The drones are certified for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) compliance according to new EU regulations and UN standards. Avy also operates a Drone Response Network that combines its drones with docking stations, claiming faster deployment to support medical deliveries and other critical incidents.

Key customers and partnerships

Avy has had partnerships with 1) the Medical Drone Service consortium in the Netherlands (November 2020), 2) a consortium led by AGS Airports in Scotland (January 2021), 3) the Government of Botswana (May 2021), and 4) drone operator Delivrone in France (May 2023) for various drone-based medical delivery projects and demonstrations. The company was working with parties such as the Royal Dutch Touring Club, PostNL, CHC, Sanquin (the Dutch blood bank), Port of Rotterdam, and Falck (emergency and healthcare services from Denmark) to deploy its drones (as of December 2021; latest data).

The company has product partnerships including ones with 1) Auterion, a company offering drone software platforms, to obtain the operating system of the drones (November 2019); 2) Robotic Skies, a global drone maintenance services provider, to develop a field support program to maintain Avy’s drones at optimal levels for medical and humanitarian flights (May 2021).

Avy planned to deploy its next-generation drone for commercial use in Q1 2022, starting in Western Europe and Africa. As of December 2021, the company was working with Danish emergency and healthcare services provider Falck, Dutch blood bank Sanquin, Dutch postal services provider PostNL, mobility and insurance provider Royal Dutch Touring Club (ANWB), and Canadian Helicopter services company CHC Helicopter to deploy the drones.
