APK offers a solvent-based Newcycling process that separates different polymers of multi-layer packaging materials and produces recycled materials suitable for new packaging materials. The company produces granules using both traditional recycling process (Recycling granules) and its proprietary Newcycling process (Newcycling granules).
As of March 2024, APK operates from a 57,000 sq m (~600,000 sq ft) plant in Merseburg, with the capacity of 12 tons per annum using the conventional recycling process, and eight tons per annum using the Newcycling process.
Funding and financials
In February 2023, APK formed an agreement with LyondellBasell and KIRKBI, which agreed to invest approximately EUR 130 million in the company, and are set to become minority shareholders in APK, along with other co-investors. In addition, Newcyling Plants will be built to increase its production capacity.
