Cognitec is a German-based facial recognition solution provider. Cognitec's system employs a proprietary sensor that can distinguish between real human faces and spoofing artifacts, such as printed images and masks. The company’s product portfolio includes 1) border control surveillance by combining smart hardware for image acquisition with software for verification, 2) detecting people from live video streams or video footage, and 3) performing image searches in databases. In January 2023, Cognitec upgraded its facial recognition hardware with presentation attack detection (PAD) capabilities (to ensure a live person is interacting with the device) and the ability to compare live faces with images.
In March 2022, Cognitec was acquired by SALTO Systems, a provider of access control solutions, to integrate Cognitec’s facial recognition systems with SALTO’s access control product portfolio.
