Last-mile Delivery Automation

Refers to unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that deliver packages. Drones are already in commercial use in many other industries (such as photography, construction, and agriculture). The use of drones for goods delivery has emerged with the gradual advancement of battery and connectivity technologies.

Refers to autonomous vehicles that use pedestrian walkways and travel a little faster than average walking speed (generally 3-6 miles an hour). These vehicles can usually carry up to around 20 lb. and use a camera, radar, and sensors to move autonomously.

 <p>Uber has announced a partnership with Avride, an autonomous vehicle startup. This collaboration aims to incorporate autonomous delivery robots and cars into Uber's existing services, including Uber Eats.</p>
 <p>The initiative will start in Austin with sidewalk delivery robots for Uber Eats, moving onto Dallas and Jersey City later in the year. The companies also plan to introduce autonomous mobility services in Dallas the following year. Once launched, Uber and Uber Eats users could potentially choose between autonomous delivery or regular services when using the Uber apps.</p>
 <p>By 2025, Avride aims to expand its robot fleet within Uber Eats to hundreds.</p>
